Just finished watching this strange 1988 movie again. I discovered it by chance and have been hooked ever since. It has made a huge impact on me; has gripped me and refuses to let go. A strange, poetic and unjustly obscure movie.
It's marketed as a horror movie (and some scenes certainly are), but it's more of a dark, surrealistic fantasy and still so much more than that. A dreamlike, tender coming-of-age story with two exceptional and brillant main actors - Charlotte Burke and Elliott Spiers (rest in peace, dear). She has never acted again after this movie and he comitted suicide at the age of 20, which makes the feel of this movie even more melancholy. The beginning makes me dream, the middle shiver and the end bawl my eves out every time. Highly recommended if you can get your hands on a copy!½

Too condensed, too much Russian spoken without translation/subtitles, and.too little acting. No emotion was shown in the performance until toward the end; before that the actors are pretty much just speaking their lines. And the actor playing Count Bronsky was too old for the.part. Overall, a huge disappointment.½
