Harold Robles

Albert Schweitzer was an amazing man. I am surprised Harold Robles was able to fit so many stories of Schweitzer into this little volume of his life. Robles writing is engaging and his subject is interesting. I'm sure any reader would find some part of this book to enjoy. The introduction from Schweitzer's daughter adds to the story.

The extras in the book would not aid any researcher, however. The time line is very short. There is no bibliography and the further reading section offers few titles. I think this book is good for getting readers interested in Schweitzer, but they will need to look elsewhere for more resource materials.… (más)

A biography by the President of the Albert Schweitzer Institute for the Humanities, a devotee from the age of eight. It is not a bad account of his life, but there's definitely an agenda behind the words. Of course, trying to get children to care more about those around them as well as humanity in general couldn't exactly be seen as a nefarious plot to poison the minds of youth, and the author makes no pretense of hiding his connections to Schweitzer's legacy. All in all, a good account of an important man in the 20th century.… (más)
