We've all had those moments in life where time ceases to exist. The breath is knocked out of you, and life as you once knew is gone in an instant. It could be an accident, a diagnosis, even a word. For Rhonda Robinson it was a phone call and sadly it was for me too. No, my phone call wasn't the same as what Rhonda experienced, but it was still a moment suspended in time. One scream in the quiet of the night. I can still feel that shattering moment and, even though it's been 30 years, it still brings tears to my eyes.

FreeFall is so much more than a guide to help with grief. This tome delves so much deeper, touching anyone that has experienced those life shattering moments.

Reading Rhonda's story was so raw and deep that I felt physical pain in my heart reading about what she's had to endure. I have two boys of my own and I cannot even begin to imagine losing either one of them at such a young age.

What inspires me and that Rhonda is using this life shattering moment to help others in their grief, despite what has caused it, and helps guide them to finding their new identity with the only One who can really help you truly pick up the pieces. Rhonda knows where her hope lies, and she wants you to know as well.

You can feel the emotion on every page, knowing that the author is sharing her heart, which is resplendent. This is a must-read for anyone who is dealing with any for of grief or hopelessness of any kind. FreeFall is the perfect reminder that there is always hope, you just have to know where to look.

Grief. It’s an unavoidable fact of life. If you haven’t yet experienced it, chances are, some close to you has. In FreeFall: Holding onto Faith When the Unthinkable Strikes, Rhonda Robinson shares her personal story of losing her son and her journey through her grief.

“We were not meant to live our entire lives in pain.”

Throughout the book, Robinson emphasizes that everyone’s grief is different. There is no one-size-fits-all solution to grief. The author does share many of the things she has used to work through her grief as well as moments of revelation that helped her change her thinking.

FreeFall is something everyone should read. Even if you are not currently in the process of grieving, loss of any kind—a life, a relationship, a dream, a job—will touch your life. This book equips you not only to face those times but also how to come alongside others who are grieving.

“The God of the universe knows the depth of sorrow and what can be birthed out of it.”

As a mother who has personal experience with the sudden loss of a son, I could easily identify with this author. She has shared many valuable lessons she learned through her loss and grief. The chapter about keeping our thought life under control was one that really stood out to me; that was an area with which I really struggled after our loss and a couple of other extremely traumatic events in the next two months, and God taught me many of the same lessons He taught this author. The one thing in this book that I question is her recommendation for stream-of-consciousness writing, to clear the mind so that you can hear from God. Something about this recommendation doesn't sound quite right to me, but I don't have anything to base my feeling on. Use your own discernment about this one. There was a detail in the book that was fun to run across; she mentions driving a certain Amishman around, and I recognized the name—his brother was in the same church we were part of at one time! If you are struggling with loss and sorrow, this book may be very helpful. I found it easy to read and encouraging.
I received a free copy of this book from JustRead Publicity Tours, and these are my honest thoughts about it.
