As a rule, I enjoy stories that center on "shifter" communities, and all the more if the main characters are gay. In Sammy Reynold's Spark, the protagonists all have a secret. As is often the case in "shifter" stories, the characters live apart from regular human society, but in Spark, they live in protected areas, and human society plays little to no role in the novel. Fitzy and Jasper are "mailmen," two members of a gang that traffics in drugs, guns, and other contraband, using the laws designed to protect shifters to deliver high value goods without interference by the US or state authorities. But Fitzy and Jasper have a secret. They are both homosexual which would bring about their death should the leaders of their community learn the truth. Throw in a third character, Maxwell, and the sparks fly. The book has non-stop action sequences, and enough plot twists to keep any reader entertained. I won't give away any more teasers, but suffice it to say that if you enjoy books about gay shifters and how they survive in a hostile environment, you'll enjoy Spark. The book is very well written and as an ARC reader, I found no annoying typos or other problems with the text.… (más)
