I read this book with special interest, as someone who has struggled with OCD in various forms for longer than I can remember. The disorder itself is described in a child-friendly way, with simple analogies to explain even complex points. For example, OCD is compared to a hungry monster, who only gets greedier the more you feed it. Kids are encouraged to be "OCD detectives", investigating and challenging their behaviors and thoughts. There's also activities introducing the concepts of mindfulness, meditation and self-kindness (something all kids can benefit from). My favorite was the "rewards chart" technique, which suggests setting up a system where a child earns points each time she resists giving in to an OCD behavior. I was so impressed with the way the author made this complex illness into something explanable to kids. It's motivating on every page. My only complaint: I wish this was published, say, 25 years ago!… (más)
