David O. Rankin was the minister of Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan for many years. In preface the author writes, "Life and death are inevitably woven together. It was Manilius who wrote: 'Even in birth we die; the end is there from the start.' A theme explored in the poetry of T. S. Eliot, in the writings of Otto Rank, and in the existentialist literature of every era, it is the common thread in my own approach to the subject of death and dying."
