I was surprised to get this after thinking it would never come. It is a small book, and it's regarded as a companion volume to "Understanding the People Around You: an Introduction to Socionics" (2009). My previous experience with socionics has been relatively sparse, a couple of followers of socionics visited my Enneagram meet-up group in NYC 5-6 years ago. It is akin to the MBTI and rests on people falling on four sets of poles with opposing psychological functions at each end. It starts off with two pairs of basic functions: thinking vs feeling, and sensing vs intuition. This is fairly similar to the MBTI. These four functions when paired become mindsets: pragmatists, socialists, researcher, humanists. Then come the attitudes, extroverts vs. introverts. Where the two systems differ is when the MBTI describes a contrast between the judger and the perceiver, socionics describes the difference between the rationalist and the irrationalist (terms which might be closer to those Carl Jung himself used).

What grabbed my interest is the personality type that this book plunges into, namely the Seeker. I believe I am a Seeker, which is an Intuitve, thinking extrovert. Seekers are said to be attracted to the unknown, untested, and perhaps the fanciful, which I probably am. The book goes through the strong and then the weak channels of a Seeker. And so It continues to unravel through other aspects of life, nd seems to be akin to my own way of being.

I was given this book for free by LibraryThing's Early Bird Reviewer / Goodread's FirstReads program for a review.

An interesting look into Socionics and 'Seeker' type in particular. I don't fully buy into the Socionics idea of personality types and I was never a strong believer in Jung's 'shadow' idea but there is some interesting characteristics that I identify with 'Seeker'. I think its a bit too easy to label someone a "this" or a "that" and it doesn't get to the real root of people / humanity or our psyche's and is a discredit to people to limit them to one personality type.

Still, overall an interesting - very quick - read.

Understanding the Seeker: Socionics in Everyday LIfe by Kacee Quinelle. This is a smallish book which has an introduction to the subject of socionics [basically the exploration of personality traits & types], followed by a deeper look into one of the 16 basic personality types, in this case, the Seeker. It is the first of a projected series of sixteen and it had some interesting tidbits to mull over when one is dealing with a person exhibiting this "type". I recall taking "personality" tests in high school [many years ago, LOL] which was part of career counseling.… (más)

What a marvelous introduction to Socionics in Everyday Life by author Kacie Quinelle. This first book introduces the reader to the Seeker Personality, the be followed by 15 other volumes . The author covers the Seeker at home at school, and at work. In the introduction, it is also explained that the Socion or Sociotype is a personality type within the framework of society. The Seeker personality covers the Extroverted, the Intuitive, the Thinker and the Irrational psychological types.

It is suggested that a preliminary introduction to the MBTI will allow the reader to understand these 16 values.Appendix A gives you an example of the Dichotomy Tests to determine psychological types by Filatoa, which will be a way to find our more about yourself.
This was a quick read, and I recommend it to all who seek to know others or themselves.
