Potential readers of this text should be alerted to what it is not. It is not a layperson-friendly book like Levin's The Season's of a Man's Life or Sheehy's Passages. Instead, this is a professional text containing 11 articles in no particular order about various issues of adulthood. The articles touch on normal adulthood development processes and abnormal cycles. Broadly relevant topics such as the development of femininity, adjustments to parenthood, and the midlife crisis receive articles, but there are also articles of more narrow scope such as "The Development of Intrapsychic Structures in the Light of Borderline Personality Organization" and "Homosexuality in Homosexual and Heterosexual Men: Some Distinctions and Implications for Treatment." Although I am not a professional, I found the articles refreshing for having insights without losing readability for someone who has basic familiarity with psychoanalytic concepts. The emphasis is on psychoanalytic clinical practice, so anyone hostile to the analytic approach is not likely to find this book of much value.… (más)
