This book begins with a very interesting short history of cartoons in the U.S. --from early sub-Hogarth through the 19th century imitations of Punch with lengthy accompanying texts ("Legends") to the rise of the modern-style cartoon with a short caption in College Humor in the 1920s. The cartoons in this actual collection, however, are all current with its publication (1946) and many are at least mildly suggestive by the standards of the day, forerunners of the later ones in Playboy. This volume was in a bookcase of my father's books in my parents' bedroom; I suspect it as a relic of his bachelor days.… (más)
