This is an excellent book! Not only for genealogists, but for anyone wanting a glimpse into the real lives of immigrant women. German women are the subject, but their experiences allow us to see into the feelings of anyone leaving their homeland forever. Some of the experiences of these women read as smoothly as the best fiction writer in spite of numerous references which lend credibility. I highly recommend this book.
