In this book, written a decade before the Mariana Trench dives, Piccard describes the design and experimentation process of the Trieste. Showing authentic Latin spirit tempered with Swiss neutrality, Piccard doesn't save personal praise nor condemnation on any person he deems deserving. Where Beebe is a naturalist describing his discoveries and observations, Piccard is an engineer describing tools and methods. Both approaches are valid.
