This is a pretty awesome book (as far as books on counseling go!). There are several clinical examples, which are ideal for counselors in training--I LOVE clinical examples and being able to "see" real counseling. Almost every technique that is offered includes an example. The techniques are ones that are creative and demonstrative.

Another positive aspect of this book is that it is simple to read in that, although it is a required text for one of my classrooms, I did not feel as if I were reading a textbook (I've had my share of bad ones...).

The only downside of this book, which is the reason I recommend this book for anyone interested in counseling, but NOT at the CEP department at Nevada, is that there was very little that was new to me. (Dr. Conte is a professor here, so the stories and techniques were mostly mentioned in class.) Now, what I believe Conte would say if he were to read my review (aside from telling me I should have rated it a 5) is that hearing the same information more than once is not a bad thing. Sometimes, it's the 5,003 time that we hear something that it actually sinks in for us. However, maybe with the breakneck pace I am going through counseling books right now, I want new information more than a review. :)

I DO however, LOVE all of the connections to Greek myths--all about that.
