NCLA Review - At Jesus’ Side is an animated family movie about the last week of Jesus’ life through the Resurrection, as told by a stray dog, Jericho and his outcast animal friends. Our hero, Jericho, has been mistreated by humans. Filled with anger and fear, he and his friends travel away from cities and humans. Right off the bat, we identify with this “family” of assorted lovable animal characters: Maya the swift and noble Saluki, Miguel the annoying chameleon, and Sophie the elephant. We experience tense moments during narrow escapes from the evil dog catcher aptly named Psychosis. When our friends finally cross Jesus’ path, Jericho experiences for the first time kindness and love from a human. As Jesus kneels down to speak to him, Jericho turns from hate and anger and forgives the man who hurt him in the past. Our friends follow Jesus during his final week in a futile attempt to rescue him from death. Jericho’s grief at the Cross turns to joy at witnessing the Resurrection. The voice-over for Jericho is Lucas Grabeel (High School Musical). Roma Downey (Touched by An Angel) provides the voice for Maya. Rated G. I highly recommend this Dove-Family Approved film. Rating: 4 —BM
