This was a fast read, engrossing, and very funny. I enjoyed the two main characters most - both were unusual, though Byron is an iconoclast, even in a world populated by sometimes surly cryptids that pass as human. His lack of shirt, his eating habits, his evil Christine car, and the way he simply accepts that he may have run over a naked man that fell from the sky were all fantastic details. I enjoyed the dynamic between Ronan and Byron quite a bit, and I loved how their relationship was presented and developed throughout.

The cryptid-heavy setting was also delightful, and I loved how both characters had history and their own reactions to them. They blended well as mostly human, just... extra, sometimes. There are a few short storylines about different beings, including a wish-granting fire being, a demon/ghost, and a werewolf. Ronan and Byron both accept the beings at face value, and don't ask a lot of questions. Sometimes, the beings themselves are the ones at a loss, as with the werewolf.

Most of the story is fairly light, despite both characters sustaining life-changing injuries at the beginning, and I really enjoyed that about it. Byron's backstory is dramatic and a little sad, but felt like a good balance, and I liked the way events were revealed to Ronan.

The story is self-contained, but is set up to continue with a few loose ends and the potential for a lot more interactions with quirky cryptids. I would love to read more.
