I liked the first part of this book, the theory is explained nicely and Patton clearly thought it out well. I think it can be useful for aspiring writers and give them some ideas on how to set up a story and make a good plot.

The second part of the book was really disappointing though. Patton illustrates his theory by using movies as examples, but, no offence, the movies are terrible. Really, if those are examples of 'excellent storytelling' then I have no ambition to become an excellent storyteller. It just makes the entire book less valuable and less convincing when a theory on storytelling is applied to really bad stories, and it really doesn't work very well.

I'd recommend aspiring writers to read the first part on theory, take from it what they find useful and skip the second part.

An interesting story of a CIA operative sent to Panama to complete an operation that had been overseen by a close friend of his. As the plot thickens one begins to wonder who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. An operation conceived to allow the United States to maintain military bases in Panama after 1999 becomes tied in with drug running and a ex-drug kingpin who considers himself the new liberator of all of the oppressed of the world. All of the characters are drawn together by the death of one women who all of them had loved. Who had done the killing, was it an accident, or was it suicide? That is the question that revolves around throughout the entire book. I believe it gives an good insight in how different forces within the United States government can work at cross purposes and cause more harm then good in some instances.

A very interesting and good read.

I received this book through LibraryThing Member Giveaway.

The story starts with the murder of CIA agent Tyler Broadman during a covert operation, and hinting at the death of his fiancee, Helena Hernandez. The CIA sends in Nicholas Lowe (Tyler's friend and fellow agent) to finish the job. Nick seems more focused on finding who killed Tyler and why.

The plot was interesting.I enjoyed the overall storyline. It seemed well thought out and realistic. After sending out a few red herrings, the good guys turned out to be the bad guys, which seemed a bit typical in government agency stories.
I'm not a political person, so I found all the conversations about Panamanian politics to be tedious to read. Also I found too many phrases were nauseatingly repeated throughout the book. I also didn't feel it was necessary to give full name with title almost everytime people were mentioned (such as Minister of Foreign Affairs Victor Hernandez).
Who was Helena other than Victor,s daughter that everyone in Panama seemed to have a perfume scented picture of her hidden away somewhere?

The plot of this book is really good. The CIA funding a Panama referendum to let American troops remain in country after the treaty that passes the Canal to the Panamanians. They are funding it using drug money. There's murder, intrigue, deception, politics, corruption. The problem is I never had a good feel for the characters themselves, especially the lead character, Nick Lowe. I know his history, but not his personality. I never really was able to get into the book. The story was conveyed well, but at times seemed stilted and forced. I found myself thinking of different ways the sentence or paragraph could have been phrased to make it read better or to give it more depth. In the end, I didn't hate this book, but nor did I love it.. If you love this type of plot, you need to read it and find out for yourself. You may just love it.½

Fast-paced thriller set in Panama Canal zone in 1999. Nicholas Lowe of the C.I.A. is sent down to Panama to solve the murder of his colleague and friend and make contact with a drug baron to finance the re-election of a Panamanian president. Plenty of mayhem and skullduggery abound with romance thrown-in for good measure. An enjoyable read.

Nicholas Lowe's CIA career was nearly derailed because of a failed mission years earlier. Now he is back in Panama on a mission tied to helping the U.S. maintain its presence in that country, and also to seeking answers to a good friend's murder. The tale grows more harrowing page-by-page as we learn the intricacies of CIA involvement with drug traffickers to carry out their purpose. This entertaining novel is more than a mystery of who killed Nick's good friend, however, and how vengeance will be carried out. It is equally the story of a murdered young cocaine-addicted Hispanic woman and her powerful sway over numerous men on both sides of the battle.

I found the opening pages a little slow to get going, and oddly felt that I got to know the dead woman better than some of the other important characters, but with some patience found the story slowly tightening its grip on me. It is less action-oriented and more thoughtful, in other words, than the BOURNE thrillers. In this case, that's not a bad thing at all. Author Patton seems to know a lot about government bureaucracy and operations, perhaps becasue of his experience working with the U.S. State Department. This created a sense of realism that heightened the atmosphere. I recommend this book.

A combination of murder, drugs, politics, and spies (especially within the historical/political context of the Panama Canal) created a story that I found quite enjoyable. In this novel, Nicholas Lowe is a CIA field agent turned desk jockey. When his friend (also a CIA agent) is killed when on a field assignment in Panama, Nicholas is asked to return to the field to finish the job of stopping a drug smuggling ring. He is promised that if he is successful he will have his name restored and be granted membership in "The Order" which appears to be a elite society but not really described. Unfortunately, while the story is great I was a bit disappointed in the character development. At times I found myself having to re-read sections to make sure I understood what was happening and who was involved. Despite this flaw, I found the book well worth the read.½

I received this book from the librarything member giveaway program. Hailey is a dancer coming out of a bad relationship and fells are mean are dirt bags. Her life dramatically changes when she finds out she is a mythical Ciguapa that have turned feet and prey on men. Finding a tribe of Ciguapa forces Hailey to make a life alterting decision. The story was confusing to follow at times, and read almost like a play instad of a novel. All in all the story was nice deversion from work.

The goddess with inverted feet. At first, I thought this book was going to be more mythology than thriller. How wrong I was. La ciguapa was intriguing and mysterious. It certainly is a happyily ever after story where the Ciguapa goddess ends with the love of her life someone who she denied her feelings for and he turns out to be her prince charming and wins her heart. Splendidly written. 2 Thumbs up!

I don't know if this would count as a proper review, but it's just that i could not bring myself to going through the entire book. Half way through it i just had to stop. There were too many repetitions of entire lines altogether. The legend of the Ciguapa was really interesting and i thought that the book would be one of those thrillers where the old legends come to life and disrupt the normal lives of people... not that i finished the novel but still even half way through i really didn't find anything remotely exciting. I wouldn't recommend this .½

La Ciguapa is a story I received as a member giveaway on librarything.

Anthony C Patton has written a story with a difference. Involving the main character Hailey a stripper/dancer who is beautiful with long hair and Inverted Feet.

Yes you read that correctly inverted feet, making her a goddess, "a symbol of femine power" (a quote from the story). Haley finds out that the inverted feet have a special meaning and maybe she's a ciguapa. "A mythological creature".

A journey takes Hailey and her best friend Tasha to the Dominician Replublic where people seem to be aware of the myth and they find out that not everything is just blue sky and palm trees. Finding a love interest alone the way.

I found this book to be an easy read, one i finished in a few hours as it's a novella size. I would of loved to see this book extended with more details and feelings about how the characters looked at one another, the expressions they showed especially between Hailey and Andrew and the surroundings in which it was set in. So I could visualise them in 3D instead of 2D.

I didn't mind that the book read like a play as I knew who was talking. This book was entertaining enough to keep my interest and attention as i couldn't put it down as i wanted to know what was going to happen and more about the myth of Ciguapa.

I loved the concept behind the story but over all this way a little lacking in execution. I didn't care for the way the dialogue was set up, it was too much like a play and not natural flowing dialogue. The myth was interesteing but very repeatative in the presentation. Overall, it was just ok for me.½

First of all, out of respect for the author who handed this book out in LibraryThing Member Giveaways, I'm not giving this a one star lightly. I read the entire thing, a short story/novella type deal before rating it.

Why I wanted to read this: "Ciguapa: a woman-beast with long hair and inverted feet who had sex with unsuspecting men and then killed them. A figure in Dominican folklore drawn from pre-Columbian Taino mythology..."

There's more, but first of all, I have Taino in my blood line and this sounds like a tough chick, which I love and the Dominican Republic setting intrigued me as well so I requested this.

Why I hated it: To state it bluntly. Great idea, extremely poor execution.

1. The dialogue is not with quotation marks at all, but reads much like a play..

FREDERICK: Before I die, I'd like to travel with you. Will you travel with me?
HAILEY: Travel? No. I won't marry you, and I won't travel with you.
FRECERICK: Then have my child...

2. The heroine is a stripper with a pulsating crotch who runs around screaming, "O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?"

That occurred about ten times. (I didn't count, but trust me, it was too often.)

3. Number two brings me to mention repetition. Too much of it!! "Hailey and Tasha toast and drink" in some form or another appeared five times in approximately four kindle pages and kindle pages are SMALL.

"In the boat, Tasha fans Hailey's face as she lies on the floor, shaking.
HAILEY: Shark!
Kevin throws some water in her face."

That happens twice, word for word one page to the other. I get she has seen a shark on two separate occasions. At least change the words a bit.

"Just follow the rules, and the world will be your oyster.." Once was enough.. five times is overkill.

I won't bother resummarizing it because this review is long enough.

This was my first book by Anthony Patton and I thought it was great! I was completely entertained and couldn't wait to turn the page. The way the characters were intertwined was very well done, the story was very interesting, and I was very glad I read this book!

Unfaithfully Yours was a bit odd at first. The story is written in a different format: not a normal novel, not a normal screenplay. It was somewhere in between the two. I felt like I was "reading" a movie (That doesn't really make sense, but that's the only way I can describe it). It took a little to get used to the format, and while I didn't dislike the format I didn't love it either. It was kind of take it or leave it for me.

This one was a quick read, it took me about two hours, which is about the time it would take to watch a movie. The story doesn't take really long to get going, I found a decent pace at the beginning that just flowed through the book. It didn't get real intense and faced paced, but it didn't get boring either.

The characters were decently developed. The plot was good. There were a few times I laughed. The dialog and actions of the characters were a bit odd at times, but they were believable.

This book was just ok for me. Everything was just kind of in the middle... The plot was ok, the characters were ok, it was just ok. It definitely wasn't a bad book, but it didn't captivate me the way a great book does.

This was a very cute book and a very quick read that I was fortunate enough to win a signed copy thru LT. The characters are great and the book centers upon Valerie and Stanley who have been high school sweethearts and married with kids for the last fifteen years. They play a game called unfaithfully yours in which they tell their partner who they want to sleep with if they could. Stanley picks the pop star Athena, which really pisses Valerie off because her PR firm represents her. Valerie had picked Brad Pitt who is more than likely never to happen. Athena's first love is Brad who she dumps to persue her singing career. In a case of mistaken identity, Athena sleeps with Stanley, who she thinks is Brad showing up at one of her concerts. A video was made that was posted on the internet. Needless to say, Valerie finds out that it was Stanley and she is not happy. She starts falling for Brad, who only uses her to get back with Athena. In the end, Stanley and Valerie realize their mistakes with these past transgressions and live happily ever after.

This books style is distrubingly like a play and the plot is see-through, but some how the book is very entertaining. I don't know how it worked out but the book was very good and sturs up excitement.

If you love Lifetime movies-this book is for you! Married high school sweethearts threatened by venerable love sick famous singer and a mundane marriage = HIGH DRAMA! At first glance, I was thrown off by the screenwriting format of the book (I read the book in an hour); however, I kept on reading and got totally hooked. The characters were inviting, even if the story line was a bit unrealistic. I think Patton could easily turn his book into a Lifetime movie event staring Shakira as Athena.
