Too many ideas happening at once. The author couldn’t decide if she was writing a thriller, mystery, or a suspense book. This caused me, as a reader, to not enjoy the book as much as I would have with one consistent idea throughout the book. Having said that, I don’t think the writing was bad, just that the book seemed to jump from one thing to another without a connection.

My review is voluntary and all comments and opinions expressed are

Hard to believe this is a debut novel. I enjoyed it and would love to "meet" these characters again. Strong timing and pace, settings, plot and character development indicate Osborne is a natural storyteller, and someone to watch.

Getting It Right is Karen Osborne's debut novel, and she provides a good story that is an easy read. Half-sisters meet for the first time when their father is seriously ill and his past indiscretions take on a whole new dimension. The story is a combination of family drama and romance, where the "good" characters are very good and the "bad" ones are equally easy to identify. The is very little nuance, and occasionally, it is a bit like the author is explaining something that everyone already knows (I actually checked to see if perhaps it was a YA selection), but it id definitely readable. I do believe that a younger reader might enjoy it quite a lot.… (más)

This novel is a great read about two half-sisters, Alex and Kara, kept apart by an imperfect father who creates a very different life for both of them – foster care for one and a privileged but dysfunctional family for the other. A death eventually brings the two half-sisters together and reveals the family drama Alex dealt with, along with Kara’s complicated relationship with a married man Kara has developed. The novel is well written from the points of view of the two half-sisters. The characters are well developed, and become real for the reader.

I would recommend the novel to anyone looking for a great read, full of drama, mystery, growth, and overcoming obstacles.
