Gary Noy, born in Grass Valley, taught history at Sierra College. He founded the Sierra College Center for Sierra Nevada Studies and served as its director until his retirement in 2012. He coedited The Huminated Landscape: A Sierra Nevada Anthology (Sierra College Press, 2010).
