Interesting story of his lifelong involvement in martial arts. Some aspects I didn't understand, such as his occasional mention of how his Christain faith was important yet he would make choices and had a lifestyle that contradicted what I would expect from such. Or that it took so long for him to actually do anything to help all the kids he was sure could be helped by martial arts...and even when he did, it sounded like he was more the manager of various centers rather than engaging the kids themselves. I could care less about the time in his life when he was an actor, though I get that for some people that would be an engaging part of his story.
This came as part of an audiocollection; I would not have picked it up otherwise. However, it was mostly interestingly told, so I don't regret the time spend listening.

In this dynamic account, Chuck Norris explains how the ancient system of Zen-the core philosophy behind the martial arts-can help each of us achieve spiritual tranquility and real self-confidence.

Chuck Norris has spent a lifetime studying the martial arts, earning several black belts and world championships. 'These studies have changed my entire outlook on life,' he says. 'In gaining the ability to defend myself, I also learned the discipline and self-respect I needed for the rest of my life.' The rest of his busy life includes acting in his popular televisin series, Wallker, Texas Ranger, as well as producing, filming, and lecturing, and Norris explians how the secret power within has been the basis of his remarkable success.

Drawing on personal experience as well as ancient Zen aphorisms and the wisdom of modern martial arts masters, Norris makes Zen philosophy accessible and applicable to everyday situations, from the conference room to the living room. Chapters include:

Winning by Losing: If you have nothing to prove, you have no need to fight.
Complete the Wheel: How to balance your life to achieve success.
Your Master, Your Art: T maintain self-respect you must respect the work you do, and do it as well as possible.
My Way of Meditating: Norris's personal techniques for achieving tranquility under pressure.

The message is simple: There are no limits for the person who refuses to accept them. The Secret Power Within is essentially a personal quest, and when the individual's powers to achieve are released, the rewards are infinite.

Chuck Norris is a world-champion martial arts master and star of many popular action films. He is the author of The Secret of Inner Strength, his best-selling autobiography.

I really enjoyed this inspirational autobiography by Chuck Norris. It was an open account of his early years, his time in the military, his introduction to martial arts, brining martial arts back to America and opening martial arts schools, the ups and downs of business and his personal life and his faith in Jesus Christ.
Chuck takes ownership of his mistakes in business and personal life and gives an account of how he built a successful martial arts school, only to sell it and see it nearly fail and how he transitioned from this to an acting career. He talks of his charitable work and his own KICKStart foundation. The stories themselves are interesting however Norris interweaves much of the relationships he has with people into them to add to their authenticity and enjoyment.

I've much admired Chuck Norris since I started karate and found out he is a Christian. He expounds his political, religious and moral beliefs in ten chapters, each with a theme. I especially liked the one on being in shape to fight the fight. I learned a lot about the start of our country and the men involved that I didn't know before.

I enjoyed reading this inspirational story. It shows how even those with the worst starts can overcome, and not only make something og their lives but become famous. I like the way that it was written, as if Mr. Norris was telling someone his story. I appreciated the way this book was written cleaning and encouraged good morals. I liked how he talked openly about his Christianity. He told many engaging stories about his life. They were comical, inspiring, engaging, and right-living encouraging. I liked hearing of his encounters with other celebrities, how he viewed the events of his life, and all the many interesting things he was able to do. This didn't take me long to finish. It was fun to read!

While I expected a run of the mill biography of a current "star", I suddenly found that hours had passed since I started reading, and I was totally engrossed! Mr. Norris' life story certainly was interesting and inspiring. I enjoyed it.

Fun. Endorsed by Chuck Norris. Cleaver clips to portray what it takes to be the meanest, toughest man in fiction.

Interesting perspective from a man much admired, Chuck takes a look back at America's much maligned history and makes the case for a once proud nation that we can be proud of again. While not claiming to have all the answers, he offers potential solutions to many problems our government and people face. While I don't agree with everything he espouses in his book, I agree with his views on limited government and fiscal responsibility. The only apparent obstacle to his ideal, which left me somewhat disheartened, is the supposition that America has the courage, solidarity, and conviction to move our nation forward.

Not the smoothest or deepest thing I've ever read -- but instructive and entertaining. I'd definitely recommend it for a light read on the subject of Zen and/or Chuck Norris.½

I have always considered Mr. Norris to be a nice man and a good competitor. He shows us that we can all accomplish anything. Mr. Norris shares his life with us, his trials and how, unbeknown to him, zen has helped him make critical decisions. There is so much in this book that we can all take into our lives to improve them. The book is easy to read and would be a good self motivational book for the martial artist that is more centered in Buddhism.

Rather than use the form of the novel to fill in exposition through backstory or inner monologues, everything is said out loud, leading the reader to assume that, wounded in battle, the Justice Riders collectively suffer from short-term memory loss, and only the constant repetition of their past exploits keeps their memories alive. And as much as I admire the moxie of a novel that actually contains the utterance, “You’ve got to be…aarraghh! Help!” I must cry foul on the literary merit of The Justice Riders as a whole.

To be honest, I picked this book up more as a joke than as a “I’m going to read this”, but as soon as I read the first few chapters, I knew I had to finish it!

Seriously, who DOESN’T want to know the real-life story of Mr. Chuck Norris?!

The book shows Norris’ strengths and weaknesses (weaknesses?) as he talks of his life-path. He admits sins and faults and also promotes family, the Christian Faith and pride in our Country.

I learned a lot reading this book about the man and his commitment to his family and his commitment to Christ!

Can anyone help me fulfill a life-long dream to meet Mr. Norris?

Millions of people around the world know Chuck Norris as the star of more than 20 motion pictures, including "Delta Force," "Missing in Action," and "Return of the Dragon." Millions more know him as a martial arts expert, the only man in the Western Hemisphere to hold an 8th degree Black Belt Grand Master in Tae Kwon Do. And then there are others who know him from his eight seasons on CBS’s longest running series, "Walker, Texas Ranger."

What many don't know is that Chuck Norris is a sincere Christian—a man whose faith plays a role in everything he does. Against All Odds is an inspirational story of how Norris overcame abject poverty from childhood, the effects of his father’s alcoholism and desertion of the family, and his own shyness and lack of strength and ability early in his life. Norris writes candidly about how he was able to overcome such obstacles in his life—giving full credit to God.

General Sherman wants to hasten the end of the Civil War. To this end, he commissions Captain Ezra Justice to select six of the best men he can find, and lead them on secret missions that could get them all hung as traitors if they're caught. Captain Justice assembles Shaun O'Banyon of the Irish Brigade; Reginald Bonesteel, a disgraced former member of the Queen's Guard in England; Harry Whitecloud, a Princeton-educated Native American medicine man; Carlos and Roberto Hawkins, half-gypsy twins with a penchant for explosions; and Nathaniel York, a former slave owned by Justice's family, who happens to be Ezra's best childhood friend. The Justice Riders' exploits do, in fact, help bring about the end of the war, but of course, their troubles are just beginning. This book is the first in a projected series. It's a must-read for fans of explosions, roundhouse kicks, the Walker, Texas Ranger TV series, and all things Chuck Norris.

The civil war is over. General Sherman begs the Justice Riders to stay on the payroll and become US Marshals. However, the men are tired of war; each has plans to settle down and start a new life. Sherman reluctantly lets them go, but assures them the offer is open indefinitely. They promise, however, to stay in touch through Elizabeth O'Banyon, Shaun's wife and their new friend. Harry Whitecloud, the Sioux Indian, returns to his medical studies at Princeton and encounters prejudice. Reginald Bonesteel, formerly of Her Majesty's army, wants to go prospecting for gold in California. Carlos and Roberto Hawkins, half-gypsy twins with a penchant for explosions, want to go to New Orleans to see what kind of trouble they could get into with their mustering-out pay. Nate and Ezra simply want to go home to the plantation they grew up on. As they travel through a nation that has barely started to heal, they all encounter difficulty. But none so much as Ezra Justice and Nathaniel York, who return to Tennessee to find that the Ku Klux Klan has become the new Threat to Justice.

Review by Alain Burrese

Chuck Norris "facts" have been going around the Internet for a number of years now. However, it wasn't until "The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book: 101 of Chuck's Favorite Facts and Stories" written by the actual Chuck Norris was published that we had Chuck Norris' favorites. The book is much more than just a collection of 101 quotes such as "When the going gets tough, the tough get Chuck Norris" and "The first rule of Chuck Norris: Follow his rules or eat his roundhouse kick." For each quote, or "fact," the book contains a short essay, a quote from someone else, and one of Chuck's Code, a short piece of advice such as "If I have nothing good to say about a person, then I will say nothing," or "Fighting for your family is a fight worth fighting."

I thought this was a very fun little book to read, and a book that also contained some very practical and good advice regarding living. Anyone familiar with Norris knows that his faith and conservative values are extremely important to him, and they are the foundation for the principles he lives by. Naturally, his values and faith come into play as he writes about things important to him, his life, and the way he recommends people live. Therefore, if you do not like his political or faith based positions, you might not like this book. On the other hand, if you share these beliefs and enjoyed his Black Belt Patriotism," you undoubtedly would enjoy this book too.

It does not go as deep into subjects as "Black Belt Patriotism" did, but there is still a list of references in the back. He does his research when he quotes things. And no, not every story in this book is political or faith based. Some are just fun stories of experiences. But they do have some kind of lesson behind them. I also like that a share of the proceeds from the book go to KICKSTART, the program that focuses on building strong moral character in our youth through martial arts.

If you want to read some of the humorous "facts" about Chuck Norris and then be motivated by some stories and the actual code he lives by, get this book and have a fun quick read. Then every once in a while you can pick it up for a shot of "feel good" because that is what most of the stories do, help you feel better and remain focused on those things that are most important. I enjoyed the book and actually bought a number of copies to give to my students at Christmas. For those that like Chuck and his beliefs, you'll enjoy it too!
