This review applies to The Somerville Legacy Parts 1, 2 and 3. My thanks to the author, Carla de Niall, for a copy in exchange for an honest review. I read all three parts put together as a single book. It was all very exciting and suspenseful, and an easy read so I wanted to continue. I kept reading right up until the end of part 3, and found nothing resolved to my satisfaction. I do not like the tactic of releasing a book in very small parts, with a continuing storyline to keep people seeking the next part. Apparently many people are ok with this, as I see quite a bit of this with e-books. I, however, will usually not read part 1 if it's clear that it is "part 1" and that there is obviously intended to be more. I want resolution when I come to the end of a book. A series is ok, but I prefer each book to be a standalone. About the story itself...very exciting and almost too much going on. There were several different important story lines to follow. And I found it exasperating that one bad thing after another and another and another, kept happening to and around this poor young lady. It was horrifying that there could be so much evil happening to her, and so many exceedingly unpleasant people around her. Yet the friendships Rebecca developed were heartwarming. Her friends were surprising, fiercely loyal and willing to do anything to help her. Rebecca in her turn was also loyal to her friends and proved herself worthy of their support. Rebecca matured in so many ways from opening scene of part 1 to closing of part 3, that it does leave the reader with some hope for the next part of this saga. If you don't mind getting the story in parts, you should definitely read this. If you don't like it in parts, you'll still enjoy the story but will be dissatisfied when you reach the end of part 3.… (más)
