This book tries a little too hard to be funny effectively burying its potential in non-stop jokes and attempt at being witty.

The two protagonists sniped and argued the entire way through the book... right to the end. All it succeeded in doing was to irritate me.

I couldn't finish this. I left it for half a year and then tried to go back to it. No interest. I like regencies but this one just couldn't grab me. Maybe the characters, maybe the plot, which seemed more than usually contrived.

The author of this book has written a fictional story about a woman who grew up in a cult.
The main character, Grace, flees home with a friend before she is forced to marry an odious man twice her age. Twenty years later her sister, Rachel, calls her and tells her that her daughter is facing the same fate. Grace rescues her niece.
The story goes back and forth in time-from the time of Grace's departure to the present.
Because the author herself had suffered at the hands of cult leaders and their practices, she was able to write a truly compelling story.
