Same formula as A Kiss Like This or Say Hello Like This, minus the sound effects for each animal (why??). Cozy all the same.

A sweet bedtime book, or beginning or ending to Pajama Storytime.

First sentence: Mix and match the farm animals.

Premise/plot: This is an interactive board book for parents to share with little ones. It has a unique format. One can open up the pages simultaneously and have all the animals be matched perfectly. OR one can mix and match all the farm animals. One can choose to be "proper" or "whimsical."

My thoughts: Will this one be appealing to every parent? Maybe. Maybe not. Same with little ones, of course. One can't really predict how other little ones will react--what they will find amusing. This one has the potential for some laughs. But no guarantees. I can imagine a scenario where parents and young readers can have a lot of fun. For example, what noise do you think a picken (cross between a chicken and a pig) would make?

Pig is given an egg by Hen and pig says “How Kind”. Pig decides to do something nice for someone else and gives Rabbit a carrot, so goes the story throughout the book and each animal is showing kindness to another animal. This is a great way to show children the pay it forward notion. I would recommend this for any collection for toddlers as well as preschoolers and showing them that random acts of kindness can be something really small and mean something really big.

Everyone loves a cute little baby especially their mother. Follow Duck and her friends as they go through all the things you need to do with a baby.
This high contrast board book is great for fostering early literacy in babies. The illustrations are fun and appealing and the words describe everything that happens in a baby’s day. The text also reminds the reader to interact with their baby.

One of my favorite authors for baby and toddler books, Mary Murphy has created another charming book with Good Night Like This. A variety of animals say good night with beautiful descriptive vocabulary and rhyme. Young readers will love turning the flaps to discover the sleeping baby as they join in the refrain of “Good night (animal). Sleep tight like this”. Calming colors found throughout the story and all the animals sleeping at the end will hopefully inspire little ones to drift off to dreamland too.

board book (small, typical size for a board book) / picture book (26 cm)
ages 0-2

The board book edition is pretty small for sharing with my baby/toddler storytime group, but the text is very short and happy and snappy.
Jbrary likes to use this book and point out to caretakers that the bold, black/white images are easiest for babies to see (eyesight is still developing until about 6 months).

Caterpillar, Bee, and Ladybug live together in a pretty garden. Bee and Ladybug often go flying, but they always come back to the garden. Caterpillar always stays behind and wishes that she, too, could fly.

One day, Bee and Ladybug come back to the garden, but Caterpillar is gone. Snail tells them that Caterpillar is sleeping and dreaming in her cocoon. So Bee and Ladybug visit the cocoon every day, waiting for Caterpillar to wake up. And then, one day, the cocoon cracks. Will Bee and Ladybug have a big surprise?

Bright, colorful illustrations accompany this charming tale that is sure to become a favorite with young readers.

This Toddler Story Book has special strong, sturdy "toddler-proof" pages so young readers can explore the book themselves. Then, using caterpillar, bee, ladybug, and butterfly finger puppets they can retell the story themselves.

Highly recommended.

Only a tree knows how to be a tree...only a bird knows how to be a bird...only a fish knows how to be a fish. More than a simple repetition book, the rhythm is almost meditative, concluding with the message that we are all unique, and only you know how to be you.

Read this at virtual storytime with buddies April 4, and made it an active book by doing different yoga poses (tree, fish, cat, dog, mountain, etc.).

Fun board book with bright colors and French door pages that create fun and whimsical animals. Children will love mixing up the animals while listening to the sounds the letters make. This book will begin the processing of learning to read!

I Kissed the Baby! is a very sweet picture book about people- or rather, animals- being excited for a new born baby. This is a great book to teach kids how to act around and be excited about a new baby in the family. The illustrations practically fly off the page with excitement, which is illustrated with the use of very large images and fonts as well as highly contrasting colors- mostly black and white. Some of the illustrations can be a bit too hard on the eyes in my opinion, but otherwise I think the message is great!

A sweet alternative to Tana Hoban's Black & White books, this one has just enough text to make a plot: various animals see, feed, tickle, sing to, and kiss the baby. A great gift for new parents and the high-contrast black and white illustrations, with just a touch of color, are great for babies.

Takeaway message: Some things change, and change is natural and not scary, but don't worry, mother's love doesn't change.

I liked this book because it reminded me of how I was when my little sister was born. Everyone was so excited to meet her and hold her. In the book, it shows how every animal is excited to meet the new baby that has just arrived.

In my opinion, the book "Say Hello Like This" by Mary Murphy is a really great book for young readers who are learning about sounds. One thing I really liked about this book was the use of bright colors and bold, full page illustrations. Each animal on the page is drawn with charcoal and filled in with color to make each page attractive to the reader. The animals are also drawn like cartoons which gives them a whimsical feel. Another feature I really liked about this book was that it was simple, yet gave a lot of information. A young learner would love this book because it covers a variety of animals like a cow, cat, chicken, bug, donkey and many more while teaching them what each animal says. This could be very interactive for parents or teachers with their kids or students as they can say the sounds along with them. A final thing I liked about this book was that it includes pages that fold over within the book. For example, one pages reads, "A chicken hello is flappy and clucky..." then the reader turns a small, half page that reveals a continuation of the illustration and more text. The text continues, "...like this! cluck cluck cluck." The big idea of the story is to teach children animal sounds in a fun and interactive way.

I really liked this book for various reasons. “Say Hello Like This” is a bright and bold book that all students are attracted to. The cover page is bright blue, gold and yellow with two adorable baby chicks. The illustrations were phenomenal. The content of the story is short and sweet. Each page shows a different animal and how they say hello. For example, “A beetle hello is tiny and tappy.” The reader then opens up a half flap and it says “Like this! Tap, tip, tap, tip.” Because there are flaps (almost like a game board,) the story is very engaging for students. This book would best be suited for preschoolers. The message of the book is to never judge. Not everyone can be like you and if they were, what a boring world we would live in! The last page of the story ends with all of the animals saying “HELLO!” It was a great, sweet, charming and powerful book.

Say Hello Like This uses wonderful illustrations and half pages to demonstrate how different animals communicate with one another. At the end if even has the reader say out loud how humans say hello. This books is great to read aloud to children 0-4 yrs old.

Although change occurs all around us, it may be difficult for young children to understand. This adorable book provides excellent examples of change in everyday occurrences - cloudy days change to sun, day changes to night, dark changes to light. The simplistic illustrations are bright and colorful. A great read for young children!

Like board books and easy readers, sometimes picture books for the very youngest can be the most difficult. It's hard to get the text simple enough without making it bland, illustrations that are attractive but not too complex, and overall a story that will attract toddlers but not bore adults to tears, especially if it's one you know you will be reading over and over again.

This Lucy Cousins look-alike hits all the nails on the head and promises to be a storytime favorite!

This picture doesn't do justice to the cover, which is actually a vivid teal with sparkly text for the title. The endpapers show several pairs of animals (cows, chicks, geese, and what might be either hamsters or guinea pigs) all making animal sounds. Each page describes a hello "A dog hello is sticky and loud" and shows two animals grinning cheerfully at each. Turn a half page flap and it says "like this!" and adds the animal sounds, showing the two animals now excitedly greeting each other. The book features dogs, cats, frogs, chickens, beetles, and donkeys. On the final spread, it shows all the animals and tells the listeners there's one hello missing...turn the page, and we see all the animals looking out at the audience and a big sparkly hello.

Verdict: I can see kids delightedly practicing their animal sounds, jumping, peeping, making cat paws, and more in this delightful story, not to mention enjoying turning the half page flaps. A real winner for toddler storytime!

HERE COMES SPRING...AND SUMMER AND FALL AND WINTER is an adorable little book that features a momma dog and her pup enjoying the four seasons.

The artwork is very bright and cheerful, and the artist didn't loose the 'dogginess' of the characters when having them play in leaves, or taking a nap. Honestly, so cute. In one scene mom is gardening and junior is digging a hole.

The text is large and the sentences are small. The font is more curvy than most books kindergarteners are likely to have come across, but still very readable.

With color from edge to edge and dogs! having so much fun, this is a good book to share. There's no heavy science but there are apple blossoms and the sun 'high in the sky', apple picking and crunchy leaves. The science isn't obvious, so adults may have to point out what they would like children to learn.
