This story perfectly exemplifies the past saying that the "the grass may not be greener on the other side of the fence." You may look at another's life and say, " Gee, I wish my life was like their life" but if you were to live their life, you may not find it to be as perfect as you may have once believed. In the story, Dudley finds himself unsatisfied with his life. He has a very caring owner who provides him with all his basic necessities, but Dudley is still unhappy. So, Dudley sneaks out to discover life as one of his many animal friends. He finds that each of his friends have problems of their own. For example, the rabbit has to constantly avoid hunters, the donkey has to manage heavy loads,etc. He then finds himself back at his caregivers' home and finds a dog who has a similar curiosity that Dudley once had. They begin to play and Dudley finds out that his life was not so bad after all. I thought this was a marvelous story because it helps us value the possessions that we have; it also illustrates the dangers of coveting our friends' possessions or lifestyle.… (más)
