I read Tears of the Moon about six years ago and really liked it. I knew there was a follow up book but finding books by this author in the United States is not easy.
This part of Australia sounds beautiful and the story was very interesting. With a blend of mystery and folklore of Islam and the aborigines thrown in.

I really enjoy this authors books. This one takes place in a fictional town on Tue southern coast of Australia, and dwells on how the richest family in town has sway over what it seeks is best for the town.
Good story excellent writing.

An interesting story set around 1970's societal attitudes as well as cultural issues set on the Hawaiian Islands.½

Story set in Broome and its environs. Considered insights into aboriginal culture and environmental importance of the region. Off-shore gas mining being approved by WA government with the inclusion of an on-shore massive storage hub to be placed on culturally sensitive land. Explored the fracturing of relationships within the town as people saw the costs and benefits of the plans. Was written at a time there was a massive storage hum sited further south than this story has it set. Possibly with very similar resistance and protest.

Anotehr good read. Exploring the early 20th century migration of poor Italians and others to Australia. The industrious efforts of one man to establish a fishing industry on the south coast of NSW and the family relationships that evolved. Story switches from Joe's tale in the interwar period to modern 21st century people who are variously connected to Joe's story. Drama and pathos abound.

Not one of her best. Maybe the superficiality of Hollywood taints the story. Some interesting character development but not as well constructed as many of her other books.

Written in the 1990s during the period of land rights and claims with all the discord and angst that caused. this is a well written tale of aborigines seeking to find their way in the white world as well as claiming their ancestry and culture in order to keep them alive. Seems to be well researched, although I really wouldn't know as my own knowledge is scanty. A fascinating exploration of the various attitudes to the issues - aborigines with a strong understanding of their history and clture, aborigines who had been removed from experiencing these, pastoralists of both recent and long held roles, city people with little exposure to the culture and issues, non-aborigines who has worked with the communities and culture for extensive periods and understood teh issues.½

I do like this author’s books
Big sweeping sagas with some history thrown in, and I like how she ties all of the main characters together in the end. This was a great book.

You could tell the author had a personal connection to this story, but still an enjoyable fast read.
A town like Boulder Colorado set on a beautiful bay in Australia, loaded with people trying to find themselves and make real differences and changes in their lives. The adds her usual historical additions in this case a whaling wife who lived there in the 1890’s through the then 20th century. As usual by the end of the book most everything comes full circle.

A great story and a sort of mystery combining Italian immigrants in Australia what one man did and accomplished from 1901 through multiple generations of his family and present day (2011) of a woman starting her life over in the fictional town of Whitby Point.
This author always tells a great story that sucks you in from the beginning.

Interesting story woven around the issues of climate change, human impact on old growth forests and the contribution of fungi to the health of the planet and humanity. Good human interest tale as well.

Another sound, but fairly light-weight read. Interesting setting of far north Queensland, Cooktown and the inland region.

Set in Sydney and told about two women and their relationships, family. One in late 1800's the other in 1960s. Each story was interesting with the connection between the two being a property on the outskirts of Sydney. But the story lacked some of the interest of some of DM's other books.

An enjoyable story of a young, American woman who marries and moves to rural NSW and her life over the next 30 years. Tangled with a father-in-law who is antagonistic and rude with the story behind that and his wife's sudden departure.

A clever story woven around an artifact rescued from a shed in NSW linked back to Burma in 1920s. Gave a lot of insight into the history and also current problems faced by the population living under the military junta.

An interesting book about Vietnam, with lots of insights into culture before, during and since the end of the war; woven around the story of two young women. One a child of a Vietnamese refugee and an Australian father seeking her dead mother's family and childhood.
