It is now 1917 and the story continues. Unfortunately Elizabeth Bennet believes she is being hunted as a spy but fortune lands her as a nurse to Captain Darcy. There are now many obstacles to prevent a happy ending, only time will tell.
I really enjoyed this story, and liked the characters, new and old. An interesting read even though we were taken through the trauma of the battlefields of the war.
I didn't feel that I was missing out because I hadn't read the first book though I think it would preferable to have done so. It only means that I need to do that soon, and then re-read this book.
Anything I didn't like? Would have loved more of Colonel Fitzwilliam but that is just a personal preference.

Colonel Fitzwilliam has known Charlotte Lucas since they played together as children, and as loved her nearly as long. But he needs a dowry, and she will not marry a soldier. As they meet again when she has married Mr Collins can there be a happy ending - we follow their story as the Colonel goes to war again - can circumstances bring them together?
Really enjoyed this story of the Colonel, one of my favourite characters. A very easy to read writing style, and an interesting story.

I would not have known how to search for this novel even if I'd known that such a thing existed! A random search for 'Donwell Abbey' unearthed this fan fiction cubic zirconia, and I couldn't resist - despite the cover art! I was hoping for more of a blend of P+P and Emma, but apart from setting part of the story at Hartfield and the Abbey, and a brief sketch of the Knightleys' family history, this is all about Darcy and Elizabeth. Nothing wrong with that, just not my favourite Austen novel.

Basically, following on from the author's first book, this is P+P transplanted to WW1. Darcy is a captain in the army, wounded in soap opera proportions and sent back to Blighty to recover - where Elizabeth, on the lam from events in the previous instalment I presume, and calling herself Juliet Thomas, is drafted in to nursemaid him. Like Clark Kent, she thinks a pair of fake specs is the ultimate disguise, but then Darcy is blind and deaf, so that helps. 'A comedy of coincidences' indeed! The plot is hokum, but the setting is brilliantly researched, all props to the author. There are also cute cameo roles for Colonel Brandon and Marianne Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility, plus John Thornton and Margaret Hale from North and South. Recommended for Austen fans who fancy a bit of crossover with aga sagas.
