"The Apostles' Creed (Latin: Symbolum Apostolorum or Symbolum Apostolicum), sometimes entitled Symbol of the Apostles, is an early statement of Christian belief—a creed or "symbol".[a] It is widely used by a number of Christian denominations for both liturgical and catechetical purposes, most visibly by liturgical Churches of Western tradition, including the Catholic Church, Lutheranism and Anglicanism. It is also used by Presbyterians, Methodists and Congregationalists.

The Apostles' Creed is Trinitarian in structure with sections affirming belief in God the Father, Jesus Christ His Son and the Holy Spirit. The Apostles' Creed was based on Christian theological understanding of the Canonical gospels, the letters of the New Testament and to a lesser extent the Old Testament. Its basis appears to be the old Roman Creed known also as the Old Roman Symbol.

Because of the early origin of its original form, it does not address some Christological issues defined in the Nicene and other Christian Creeds. It thus says nothing explicitly about the divinity of either Jesus or the Holy Spirit" (Wikipedia, "Apostles' Creed," accessed on 7/28/2018)

Although the Apostles' Creed, widely used among Roman Catholics and Protestants, is not used in the liturgies of the Eastern Churches, it neverthless contains basic truths of the Orthodox Faith of the Eastern Churches. This video features commentary by His Excellency Kallistos Ware, Bishop of Diokleia and is useful to remind us that some elements of Orthodox Christian Faith yet survive among Western Christian groups.

NCLA Review - Charles Wesley lived in 1700’s England, breaking many barriers to become “the most gifted poet and hymn writer that England has ever known.” He gave heart and soul through his music to the Methodist movement that he and his brother John Wesley led. Viewers will discover the poet, husband, and hymn writer who penned “Hark, The Herald Angels Sing” and “O, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing.” Charles Wesley wrote more than 9,000 poems, many of them now sung as hymns in churches across the world. Depressed and dejected following a failed missionary to America, he experiences a mighty conversion that kindled within him the passion to reach others with such intensity that, through his verse, we still feel today. Shot on location in England and the United States, this film brings a detailed and well-researched perspective to Charles Wesley’s history. Suitable for youth and adult viewing. Rating: 4 —SV
