Edwin Valentine Mitchell

Essays on book selling, book publishing, book stealing (!) and book buying by a Hartford lawyer-turned bookseller-turned author. I devoured this book inside a few hours; it was lots of fun to read. Of course, it's on a subject I greatly enjoy, which helps a lot. The author and A. Edward Newton (he of "The Amenities of Book Collecting") would have had a lot to say to each other, and both books should be on a shelf side-by-side. Lovingly recommended.

This is a delightful little book. The information is not particularly enlightening, but it is told in such a dated colloquial way that it really is a pleasure to read.
