In his book "Tonsils and GMOs," Steven offers interesting insight into why removing tonsils may not be the best resolution for reoccuring tonsillitis and what effects GMOs are having worldwide (GMO crops spreading unintentionally not only due to pollen carried through the air, but also because some crops are capable of cross-pollinating with common weeds).
I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars because there is obviously a lot of research that went into this, and the author has much passion for his subjects.
However...
The two separate subjects of tonsils and GMOs are never fully connected. Sure, if you put each of them in the place of the wolf in the opening analogy "How Wolves Change Rivers," I suppose they are related in that respect, but they are never really related to each other beyond that.
The book is meant to be interactive with dozens of links to cited webpages and YouTube videos. It's an interesting concept, but if this is meant to be a research paper/book, the sites are not cited properly- all that is there is the web address (and some pages aren't linking, so they've either been taken down or the address mistyped). In many classes I've taken, the importance of proper citation is heavily stressed- webpages should have not only the addresses and article titles, but also authors, date page was published, date the researcher accessed the page, and so on depending on what bibliographical format you're using.
I also felt there was too much research presented in the book. There were sometimes pages after pages of directly quoted paragraphs from various sources before the author would interject a paragraph of his own. He then presented several more pages of quotes. There needed to be a little more input from the author.
Lastly, there were a few derogatory statements made about the approval process for GMOs. I can't say I disagree with the statements, but if someone is going to publish bold statements like that, I feel they really need to be backed up with news articles stating how he came to this conclusion.… (más)
