I requested the Survival Guide for Coaching Youth Basketball hoping to add to my knowledge of the game and strategies for coaching my daughter's team. The book is very thorough but aimed at a more beginner audience. I did learn a few new drills which can add variety to our practices but most of the book covered material I already know. It would be good for a first time coach who needs to build their skills from the basics.

I've been reading this off and on for a few months. There is some good information about coaching that I found helpful, but not enough easy offensive plays to run with 5th graders. The offensive plays described in the book are quite complex and the one I did try to use with my team really fell flat.

Although I played basketball for years, it's easy to forget some of the basic rules and tips to teach to children so this will be a good reference to have as I move forward though.

Wish I'd had access to this back when I helped coach my son's basketball teams. Oh well, at least he'll be able to use these training tools and practice drills with his son!
