The Shadow of the Swarm begins just where The Morrow Secrets ends and Tallitha learns what her fate will be. There are more character introductions in this book, some nice some not so nice but all play an important part in the story. We discover many more Morrow Secrets and throughout this book things start slotting into place. I think Tallitha is a very brave girl and she is an amazing character.

Susan McNally has penned a fantastic read, I enjoyed it even more than the first book in the series.

There are still loose ends to tie up and I really want to know what happens next. I am looking forward to returning to this series when book three is released.

I'm sorry, not for me. Or, at least, not for me right now. The main character didn't grasp me, and I just could not keep my attention on the plot.

There are some very imaginative things in this adventurous story where a girl sets off to find a missing relative. Many things to like, including a big cast of strange creatures and a journey with plenty of thrills. The biggest problem is the uneven writing. Perhaps it simply needs polishing, but more likely the author needs to hone her craft. I'm of the opinion that books for kids need to be held to a higher rather than a lower standard in writing--after all, they're still learning the fine points of language and construction. The second problem is that nothing is resolved by the end--it's simply a cliffhanger for the next installment. That's a bit unfair. It's fine to leave enough to lure us into the next volume, but there should be a satisfying resolution for this story.
