I loved this book. Part of it is because as a native Iowan I know the people, the setting and the situation. But it goes beyond that. These stories have a depth of emotion that get me. Right. There! The story where the boy climbs the silo? Or the story when the man searches the sky for any sign of a jet on the afternoon of September 11, 2001? Or when he describes his son at the birthday party at the pool in a motel in Grinnell? Or the long memo written to the committee chair? All excellent and all touch something that is innately Iowan.
