Let’s Start a Riot is an alternately heartbreaking an heartwarming account of McCulloch’s families; the dysfunctional one he was born into, the one he created with The Kids in the Hall, and the happy one he lives in now.

McCulloch observes that “Humor helps us understand and partner with the sadness and beauty in life, and sometimes, because we are bathed in laughter, we are protected.” His book, and live show “Young Drunk Punk,” find that balance perfectly. McCulloch’s musings on families, relationships, growing up, and the decline and death of a parent (and pet) are universal, whether you grew up in Canada in the era of beanbag chairs and Adidas Tobacco runners or not.
