Big improvement with the much-needed updates! We have long loved the basic story of Dr. Doolittle, but were uncomfortable with some of the culturally insensitive depictions and language. This revised edition is much easier to read aloud to my kids; combined with the delightful illustrations, I can now feel good about handing it to them to read on their own as well.

Dr. Doolittle likes animals more than people. He lavishes them with love and compassion, and they repay him by managing his household affairs as best as they can. When an opportunity comes to travel to a distant land, Dr. Doolittle and his animal friends sail off to explore and make new friendships. This is a book that is different and much better than the movies. A great one to read out loud to the family or enjoy on your own.

This book is too quick and short and doesn't do the story justice. The illustrations are good, however, and can be good for young children. But still I recommend reading the actual Doctor Dolittle book.

Very cute! I shared with my fellow Youth Services librarians, who all agreed with my assessment, before showing it to the little ones who came into the children's department. They loved getting to see a book before anyone else here, and the dot-to-dot pictures were their favorites.

Doctor Dolittle seems to be pretty popular right now. However, this book will not be. It extremely simplifies many stories into one quick short book. There is not really an explanations of any of the adventures, and so much has been cut out it barely makes sense. If you want to read Doctor Dolittle, then read Doctor Dolittle. Leave this on the shelf.
