Joanna Macgregor

Apparently this is part of a Warner Classics reissue series of MacGregor's recordings from her own label, Sound Circus. Her performance of Birtwistle's "Antiphonies" also appears to be a reissue of the one issued in 1994 on Collins, the one where her cover photograph shows her hair piled on top of head. I can't tell for sure because I don't have a copy of the Collins to compare; but I have evidence that the orchestra is the Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, conducted by Michael Gielen, same as the Collins. The couplings are different, though, since the Collins was all-Birtwistle, including "Nomos" and "An Imaginary Landscape." Whatever the merits of those works, I have to say that it's a lot of fun to hear the Hugh Wood and the Lou Harrison. Plus, this one includes "Harrison's Clocks" for solo piano, a very engaging sequence of etudes melded with tocattas.… (más)
