A very well written, and very well researched book including little known facts, focusing on the royal family's flight to Varennes, the imprisonment and executions following, and of Marie Antoinette's fatal friendship with Count Ferson.
Good read. Nonfiction. Solidly based on real history. Lots of suspense and a hint of illicit romance.
How to understand the events after the French Revolution without this detail. The murders and thugs imported to Paris are shocking. Was France akin to Rawanda in the last century in violence ? The detailed biographies are especially revealing. Excellent
