Alan Loney was born in Lower Hutt, New Zealand in 1940. His first book, The Bare Remembrance, was published in 1971. In 1975, he set up Hawk Press to print his own and others' poetry. From 1987 to 1991, he operated Black Light Press and worked as an editor and tutor while continuing to publish his mostrar más poetry. He became the printer and co-director of the Holloway Press at the University of Auckland from 1994 to 1998. His poetry collections include Envoy, Sidetracks: Notebooks 1976 - 1991, Mondrian's Flowers, Imago Mundi, Rise, Fragmenta Nova, and Gallipoli.
