As a Galwegian woman this was interesting, to see how my life would have been if it had been 100 or more years earlier (as the daughter of the 5th Son of a farmer, probably nasty, brutish and short, but still). It was also interesting to see that Calcutta donated £24,000 which came via nuns. It was a hard life and the 19th Century was difficult economically as businesses found cheaper sources for their products (echo with today!). It's a time of education; unemployment, famine and chances in the perception of what women were capable of.

An interesting look into the lives of poorer folk.

It was also interesting to think that Gregory, of the Gregory Clause who lost a fortune on Horses was pinch penny enough to bring in a clause that ruined people who owned land. Thankfully my ancestors were able to band together to buy that land eventually, becoming landowners a year before an act of parliament made it easier.

Galway was a hard place to survive but it's interesting to see how it did and I'd like to learn more.… (más)
