How would you cope if you were a soldier who had fought in the second world war against the Japanese and then had a son bring home a Japanese wife to live for a time in your house. This is the plot line for this book. Merna and Frank live on a farm. To Merna, the wife, Japan is a far away country she has had no experience of and she is able to accept her daughter in law for the person she is. For for her son Paul it is no problem at all to work for a Japanese company and subsequently be posted to Japan. When Paul brings home a Japanese wife some in the community find it difficult to accept her and Frank finds it imposiible. Merna is caught in the middle and the question is - is it possible for Frank ever to accept his daughter in law or will it be too hard to keep the family together. I enjoyed this book a lot. It dealt with an issue that could be real for many people who fought against the Japanese.… (más)
