Annie Korzen is a writer/performer whose humorous essays have been printed in the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and many other publications. She has also delivered humorous commentaries on NPR's Morning Edition. She co-wrote the feature film Nobody's Perfect. mostrar más Annie played two different characters on Seinfeld: the recurring Doris Klompus and an obnoxious airplane passenger. She has also played obnoxious characters on ER, Judging Amy, Hannah Montana, and others, and can be seen as John Turturro's obnoxious mother in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. This was an entertaining memoir written by a feisty 83-year-old writer who is also an artist, actor, performer, and humorist. I appreciated Annie’s honesty, and her witty and wise observations about life, others, and herself.
With laugh-out-loud authenticity, she shares her lifetime of stories, what she’s learned and how she is finally comfortable with her age and her appearance, her lifestyle, and her friends. What makes this book a step above the usual biographical narrative is Annie’s underlying message of kindness. Yes, she’s from New York (specifically the Bronx, as she’s quick to tell you) so she’s outspoken and brash. But there’s also a warmth and sincerity in this easy-to-read book of life-affirming truths.
This is probably the rare inspirational book containing four-letter words on almost every page. But nonetheless Annie is an endearing grandmother with heart and chutzpah. I was disappointed to come to the end of the book and look forward to her next one.… (más)
