A Night Divine: A Contemporary Christian Christmas Romance by Dawn Kinzer
Other works by the author are listed at the start along with a free ebook.
This story starts out with Cammy and she's an accomplished model. One day during winter months her friend from her childhood days shows up at work and is able to get her attention and talks to her.
She just needs a little bit of help and Cammy agrees to help her as Amy has help from a friend and has hope. She collaspses and dies and a man tries to help her with no luck. Trace works with the community and homeless, love the work they do as a team.
Cammy helps out a few times and likes what she's able to accomplish by just listening to the homeless as she hands them food and toiletries. She invites Trace to the family gathering where they will celebrate Amy's life as she has NO other relative alive.
She should probably warn them about her family but ...
Trace is free and looking forward to attending.
We have just returned from the Seattle area and are very familiar with the homeless population, even other town nearby where we stayed.
Some of the stores no longer even go after those who enter, get things and leave without paying. They don't prosecute them either.
To me that's sending the wrong message as everybody can do something to get food, shelter, etc.
Like how we find out more about Trace as he seems to be from high class society...
In the past I have also knitted scarves and hats and mittens for them.
Love how the generosity comes through at hard times and how the story plays out, so passionate.
Ends with a note from the author, quotes throughout the book, acknowledgements, meet the author, free ebook and summaries of her other works and how to contact her.

Title: With a Trusting Heart
Author: Dawn Kinzer
Pages: 170
Year: 2022
Publisher: Morningview Publishing
My rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
The first pages I read were in the back of the book in a letter from the author to the readers. History comes alive when authors such as Dawn Kinzer take some little-known occurrence from the past and with great research make it come to life for audiences. Here audiences will learn about the 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition where new ideas for making life easier were first introduced.
The story focuses on two main characters, Jack and Lizzie, both of whom have experienced heartache and now face a future decision that will change the trajectory of their lives. Jack farms alongside his father. He has vowed never to marry as he watched what happened in his parents’ marriage as it fell apart. Yet, there was more going on with his mother than Jack or his brother knew, and when Jack finds out perhaps his heart can heal.
Lizzie is working in the kitchen at an orphanage, but that wasn’t in her plans. From a young age, she and a young man were best pals. The future looked bright and promising until an event broke Lizzie’s heart, and she is left wondering what her future holds. For women in that area there weren’t many choices. She has a dream of opening her own café someday. When she meets a woman named Nellie, Lizzie may find that what she thought could never be just may, in fact, come about in the most unlikely way.
Readers can anticipate a very impacting story of heartache, hope, faith, and love. Having read Dawn’s other novels, I just knew this one would be one I wouldn’t be able to put down nor would I ever forget. I wondered at the balance of telling a tale from the past and infusing it with hope where none seems to exist. It reminded me that what we perceive as a child may not in fact be the whole story. When we become adults, we can experience the wonder of God bringing about something beautiful from heartache. I hope audiences will read and share this tale with people they know and read Dawn’s other historical novels as well.

Enjoyed this historical Christian romance by Dawn Kinzer. Marriage of convenience stories are some of my favorites and this had an interesting twist. Set in Washington State in 1909 during Seattle’s first World Fair, the author weaves fascinating historical facts into the story while entertaining a budding romance between two people sworn off marriage.

Both characters had much to overcome on the road to happily ever after. Lizzie’s extremely independent and wants to take over her family’s restaurant business. When her father refuses, she goes to work at the orphanage where her brother teaches. She’s a suffragette who’s vowed never to get married after the death of her fiancé.

Jack gave up his dream for his family’s farm. He has big plans to expand if only he can convince his father. He’s determined never to give his heart or have his trust broken again after his mother’s abandonment. When a childhood friend leaves her baby at the orphanage, he and Lizzie do all they can to find her and care for her son.

The premise was definitely interesting and held my attention. I loved learning about Seattle’s first World Fair, the inventions, some of the strange practices that surprisingly were true, and how other cultures were treated and viewed. There was quite a lot packed into this short novel with several surprises along the way.

The characters were complex and the side characters added an enjoyable touch to the story. I especially liked Helen and Lizzie’s brother Timothy. While this can definitely be read as a standalone, those who’ve read Ms. Kinzer’s previous novels may recognize some familiar characters.

I enjoyed Jack and Lizzie’s slow burn romance. I loved Jack and the way he supported Lizzie’s dreams. The scene at the fair with the gondola ride and fireworks was definitely romantic. Their relationship isn’t without angst. There were several conflicts needing to be resolved and I was pleased to find out why Jack’s mother left. I honestly expected it to play a bigger role than it did.

The historical aspects were really interesting. I would have preferred to have them introduced through more “show” rather than “tell.” Some of the few conversations where facts were introduced were a little awkward for me and didn’t seem to flow naturally.

All in all, a delightful romance with interesting history, and uplifting messages of forgiveness and learning to trust in God. Thanks to the author for providing an advanced copy of her book. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review. 3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4.½

Maggie's Miracle by Dawn Kinzer
This story starts out with Maggie 1918, Riverton WI and she runs into Ray. She soon is given her time on the podium and she delivers her message.
She is there to sing and is upset when nobody claps at the end as she flees the building.
Ray approaches her out there and tells her of the claps that came but she didn't stick around.
He is an amputee and that explains why he was NOT serving in the war. She wants to hear about his ordeal but he's not sure anybody wants to hear about all the war.
She offers him a tour of the town as they stroll away from the celebration.
She learns about his skills with wood and he hopes to get back to some sort of normalcy after the prothesis.
Flanders Field poem about the purpose of poppies worn as a tribute to those who shed blook in the wars, powerful!
He draws out a lot of things from her, her singing and writing the words to the song.
She is trained as a nurse and she'd arise to any challenge she came across.
He opens up about his war experience also.
Love hearing of the writing campaign and she realizes she would impact the soldiers.
Note from the author of her other works based in the area and time frame.
Other works are synopsized at the end.

Melodies of Christmas Love
In this collection is a story I have read..
..
A Night Divine by Dawn Kinzer
Although part of a series this can be read as a stand alone.
There are a lot of characters and it's easy to keep track of who they all are in reference to one another.
Book starts out with a dedication and a quote from the bible.
Story starts off with Camryn: Camryn is a not only a model but is very successful and comes from a family with a lot of money but she doesn't let that rule what she does.
When she notices her long lost friend Amy on the streets after an event she tries to help her but she collapsed and as George is calling for 911 a man, Trace shows up to aide her in recovery.
Trace and Camryn spent a lot of time together and he's not taken the time to tell her his whole back story but she finds out from a visitor to the shelter...
Camryn then helps out a few times at the shelter where food and other items are given to the homeless. She has an idea about the Christmas meal and asks others in her family to help.
Trace thought he was the one always in charge but things happen and he's satisfied that so many are getting help.
Other pleas for help come in and they all band together to find out the right solutions for everybody.
Love how they all come together along with religion...
Ends with a letter to the readers from the author, quote from Matthew 25:40(it's also noted throughout the story)
acknowledgements to readers and others important in her life.
Meet the author is also included and a link to her amazon author page.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Sarah's Smile (The Daughters of Riverton, #1) by Dawn Kinzer
Riverton, WI 1902
Book starts out with Sarah and she's working in the store when she meets Peter's child. They had grown up and knew one another since the age of 8 and he left for college and met Lilly and married her. She had died and he decided to move back to town and stay with his sister with his child. He's now a pastor and Sarah's path crosses his often as she also leads groups in the religious learnings.
We learn about Sarah's past and she feels she's living her parents past and looked down on over the years as her mother had left her for her grandmother to raise her.
Lvve hearing the passages from the Bible and how they help to justify the decisions and outcome. She needs to overcome the hurt she's feeling and move on.
Like how she wants to match the music at the service with his sermon.
She has plans to follow other missionaries to Africa very soon... Like the connection Peter's sister Ellie have with Sarah and how he choose Rebecca the school teacher to tend to daily needs of his daughter.
Like that Will is also interested in her besides the pastor and he doesn't want her to leave the area.
What I do like are unpredictable scenes.
Asking for forgiveness-what a great way to make friends.
Easy to keep character straight as there are a handful of them. Like hearing of the everyday life and work they each do and their past-helps to understand why they have strong feelings towards different subjects.
Love how he's able to talk to the blacksmith and hear how he works his problems out. Love also how Sarah helps others with money by sharing her plants at home.
When her whole world falls apart she continues to listen to God for guidance. She has her faith still. What I like about his section is that it's similar to things that continue to happen today, being bullied and how they overcome it. Never saw this ending coming as it did.

Hope's Design (The Daughters of Riverton, #2) by Dawn Kinzer
Riverton, WI 1904
What I like from the very start is that Hope is a talented fashion designer and Ben, a secret has some hidden talents as well.
They are thrown together as his brother Jake likes Annie-Hope's cousin who she will be staying with for an extended time.
Like hearing of the Panama construction and the descriptions of what goes on there.
What I also like is connecting with others from the previous book, but you are brought up to date, not left in the dark about them.
I also am a fashion designer so this book is fascinating for me.
Hope has a huge secret that she doesn't want others to learn about-Annie knows and will keep her confidence.
Love how color strikes Hope and Ben also and it's a large part of the things they see in daily life.
Daisies-I also grow them myself and with my blue ktichen they fit perfect.
They find many of the same interests but she has to keep her distance because of her past secrets-she doesn't want to go through them again.
Hope becomes upset when Ben didn't stick up for others fighting...Jake informs her it is up to Ben to tell her....
Love all the discussions of the library and the fashion industry (Butterick and tatting, even memories of playing pinochle) and how Ben knows combinations of colors that go well together...through her tears (happy ones) she finds what he was hiding.
Like how they bring Rebecca into their circle.
Hope takes it upon herself to promote Ben's work......then her ex fiancée shows up....
Love hearing how the youngest are kept busy along with everyone up to the elders in the community.
Thanksgiving holds special memories for those gathered around the table...

The Graysons son is the culprit, the bully and he's gone in front of the school board and wants her replaced with a man who can control the children.
Ten years she has taught and also taken care of her best friends children so the adults could spend time alone away from them.
Shocking news from the sheriff and the three children no longer have parents.

Title: By All Appearances
Author: Dawn Kinzer
Pages: 404
Year: 2019
Publisher: Morningview Publishing
My rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
What was I expecting when I opened the book? Well, a good story and I wasn’t disappointed. In the pages, readers meet a young lady who is trying her hardest to live up to expectations she saw modeled as she grew up. Liana is a fictional character who loves to plan events and is working on one that would help raise funds for those with medical needs but who lack the funds to pay for the care. Her father is a believer in God and at first it is quite apparent that Liana doesn’t share her father’s faith.
The other main character is named Bryan and he is a survivor. Bryan has a smooth and calming voice, but he suffered burns from a fire and is disfigured. He is trying to find his way through a new “normal” called life and with the help of Liana’s father he might just make it. When Liana and Bryan first lay eyes on each other, there aren’t sparks of romance, but there was something in Bryan that reached into Liana’s heart.
Throughout the novel one is reminded of Beauty and the Beast by Disney, but there is an aspect that is way different than the fantasy. You see, unlike in the Disney version, Bryan’s appearance doesn’t change. He learns with his various interactions with Liana that there is more to life than what one looks like. Liana learns that maybe appearances aren’t all they are cracked up to be, that the heart of a person is what should be seen. Most of the time, however, humans aren’t quick to see that deeply.
Here is a novel that doesn’t gloss over the trials, temptations and humanity that isn’t all that pretty. I think it shows the internal struggles humans go through when they have been hurt or disappointed. There is romance in the book, and faith is another strong theme. The way the writer describes Seattle makes me want to visit the area; it sounds wonderful.
It’s a story of hope and redemption with the bark on, in other words, there is the element of the human heart but with the spirit of hope, faith and love.

By All Appearances by Dawn Kinzer
Starts with dedication page. Story begins with Llana Tate and she is involved with a huge gala event in Seattle that would make childrens' medical needs taken care of.
She walks to the stables where her dad is a good sounding board and he's usually with the horses at night. She finds Brian there-the new hire and she's taken back to his physical appearance, so much pain he's endured from the scars left.
Her dad is a doctor and Brian is one of his patients from the hospital and he needs purpose. Hes also met the new owner of the estate up the road and her dad thinks they can work together as they need a venue for the gala.
Erik and his wife own the building and they meet with them and Bryan to go over some things they'd like them to consider incorporating into their reno job to benefit them and all nearby facilities. Bryan is the clencher!
She has a bit of time and rushes to accept Kevin's request for dinner. things go further and she has to put a halt and she's able to find out more from Bryan's sister about him and the circumstances of his disfigurement.
Things completely change when her sister shows up with her new fiance and conversations are overheard and they hurt.
She finally realizes just who she really loves and why-the inside is all that matters. She's got a lot on her plate and is under stress at times.
Like the location, theme, all hidden treasures (Horses, lodge, reno) devotion to helping others get their medical at all costs, family gifts passed down through the generations for each of them.
Love the reinforcement of hope, it comes in many forms.
Love hearing of Snoqualmie as we've visited a few times and hope to again this coming summer. Such a treat to find it mentioned in a book.
Love that they all have religious callings and follow the good book in their daily lives.
Like all hidden details to what Llana does for work-so busy and coordinated from start to finish.
Love how he learns to lean on God, this is priceless!
Feel like I hit the jackpot following both of their stories, instead of just one.
She needs to prove to others that she is good at her job but Bryan's dog health emergency gets in the way...
Passages from the Bible. Acknowledgements, about the author, other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
Found there were a lot of characters but they are easy to keep track of. Some play a small part and some a large part. Didn't want to exclude a lot of them but they all make the novel what it stands for.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.

Title: Rebecca’s Song (The Daughters of Riverton #3)
Author: Dawn Kinzer
Pages: 432
Year: 2018
Publisher: Morningview Publishing
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
The characters we read about in the novel were introduced to in Sarah’s Smile and Hope’s Design, which are the first two books in the series, respectively. For me, reading the books in order helped really make the third book very impactful to the heart of this reviewer. The main character, Rebecca, is a changed woman nearing thirty and the town of Riverton’s school teacher. Rebecca’s past, which audiences learned about in the other novels, comes back to haunt her in the life she is trying to live in Riverton.
Now, she is the main caretaker of three orphans who recently lost their parents. Rebecca always wanted marriage to a man who loved her even knowing she was unable to have children. Now it seems she has a family to love, but no husband to love her and help carry the burden. Jesse is the guardian of the three children, but wants to live in Chicago and remain a detective.
The tale is one that carries themes of faith, trust, hope, love and redemption. I thought the author did a terrific job with this woman’s character. Rebecca faces many challenges and Jesse does too. He doesn’t face them believing God cares about him. Jesse has a history of brokenness. Readers will enjoy seeing his heart and how God touches him through various trials.
I would gather all three books then plan to spend time in Riverton, reading the various players stories of life, faith and a small town perhaps coming together. I highly recommend these to other readers and perhaps consider lending them to family and friends who enjoy getting lost in the pages of a great tale!

Rebecca Hoyt is a mature school teacher, with a lively bunch of children to teach. She's satisfied with the teaching position for over 10 years, until some new boys moved to the area. Willie, the older boy, 13 is very disruptive and picks fights with the other children, almost every day. She has gotten banged up, trying to pull Willie off of another boy. She has a secret, that she keeps to herself.

Detective Jesse Rand is a railroad detective. He's in danger a lot of the time, as he rides the rails, protecting the people on the trains. He is good at what he does and he loves his job.

Oliver, Nathan, and Callie are Jesse's nephews and niece. Their parents died in a holdup of a train, going to the city. The three children are being cared for by Rebecca, who was babysitting them, while their parents were on their trip. Rebecca knows the children have an uncle, but she's unsure of where he is, or if he's coming to get the children.

Jesse is torn between caring for the children or going after the outlaws who killed his sister & brother in law. He tries to fit in with their town, Riverton. He works some railroad jobs that are nearer to home, so he doesn't have to upset the children by moving them to the city, where he lives. He soon finds out that it will not work, leaving the children in their own home.

Jesse tries to find a nanny, who will be able to look after the children, when he is out of town, on a case. No such luck. When his is around Rebecca, she is frequently humming a song, that sounds very beautiful. He asks her about it, but she tells him it is something that she's made up. Read the book, to find out how everything all comes together.

I enjoyed reading this story, it is set in 1905. It has a spot on my Favorites shelf, so I can read it for many years to come.

I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but was under no obligation to submit a review.

Title: Hope’s Design (The Daughters of Riverton #2)
Author: Dawn Kinzer
Pages: 378
Year: 2016
Publisher: Morningview Publishing
My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.
In the first novel in the series titled Sarah’s Smile, we meet an interesting cast of characters who live in the small town of Riverton, Wisconsin in the early 1900s. We meet the antagonist, Rebecca, whose heart being filled with broken dreams spews ugly words toward Sarah because of Sarah’s heart-breaking past. Now Rebecca is a totally different woman and Sarah is married with a child on the way when Hope comes to the town to put space between her and her former fiancée.
Hope is an only child and when her parents travel to a distant land. For her safety, they encourage her to leave New York with very few people knowing her destination. However, after some time has passed, her ex-fiancée shows up at her job to continue the harassment he began in New York. Hope’s dream is to become a designer and see women glow when they feel beautiful wearing her dresses. She desires that women see that they have inward beauty too and carry themselves with more confidence.
Ben has a secret and only his family knows what it is and why he won’t let anyone see what he creates. Ben and Hope meet on the train as they are both heading to Riverton and their first encounter isn’t exactly one of laughter or friendship. As I read the book, I really began to imagine the scenes playing out in my mind. The author does such a fantastic job of showing how God, faith and friendship can make a world of difference in a person’s life.
Reading how Hope overcomes her fears, past, and begins to understand how God knows best how to fill her life with joy, love and faith, she is then able to rest in His plans. Hope wants the best for all the people whom she encounters and who have embraced her since she moved to Riverton. Here is another example of a story at its best for when a reader is done, he/she is left wanting another tale from the writer perhaps focusing on another character from the town of Riverton. Read and enjoy both Sarah’s Smile and Hope’s Design as they are very enjoyable works of fiction!

Dawn Kinzer writes a story that moves the heart of readers, and folks she is a brand new writer! In her debut novel, we read about a friendship between Sarah McCall and Peter Caswell. Sarah is a lone child who is raised by her maternal grandparents after her parents apparently abandoned her after dropping her off at their home. Now she is an adult and has had her heart broken by many people and her hopes are dangling by mere threads.
Peter returns to his hometown as a widower with a young 4-year-old daughter in tow. Peter, who always wanted to become a pastor, returns to take over leadership of his home church. Peter’s life has been anything but easy as readers will discover; there is more to this character than meets the eye. Peter’s lifelong friendship with Sarah turns into a rollercoaster ride when he returns home and begins talking with her. Readers will ride the coaster as there seems hope that romance may be blooming with Sarah as well as ride a quick, downward, heart-dropping disappointment as obstacles come in their path.
Many characters in the novel are easy to identify with. I loved how the small town atmosphere comes through poignantly in the book. Wait till you reach the end and see where the author got her idea for the story; it’s pretty amazing! I plan on reading book two of this series titled, Hope’s Dreams, which has also been published and I am expecting another wonderful tale. As soon as I finish, I will share a little bit about the book with you. Until then, really enjoy Sarah’s Smile as it is outstanding!
