For readers who love a down and dirty murder mystery, this is right up your alley. Add in the gritty reality of BDSM, and you have a complicated story that will challenge incorrect beliefs and old prejudices. It is obvious early on that two police detectives who figure prominently in the tale are this author's "Everyman" and express the biases common to folks outside the Lifestyle, as it is often termed. The author's point of view stems from her own participation in this alternate lifestyle and the expertise she demonstrates gives this novel its unmistakable authenticity. No effort is made to The unusual needs of people many of us encounter in daily living so seldom are tolerated and shoved into the "perversion" category. So it is here and not only does their presence and reality cause surprising difficulties in the murder investigation but there are personal crosses to bear as well. There are twists and turns and a surprising ending. There are also indications the some attitudes gradually begin changing. All in all, this is a compelling story but definitely not for the faint of heart.

This book really surprised me! The S&M scenes are quite graphic but the story very well told, great pacing, and very professional, and a heck of a good mystery. I would definitely read another book from this author.

Can't remember what author I was following that recommended this but shame on them. I actually was very hooked on this book until about the last 10 pages. The S&M was equally placed with the whole murder issue which made it more interesting (unlike 50 shades that was just boring). But the ending turned me off completely. I can handle other lifestyle choices but not how this book played it out to be in the end. I think it actually did more to damage the image of people who choose to live this way than try to help bring their cause to light. Sorry I wasted my time and money on it.

I liked the plot but just was not satisfied on how it was developed or the character development. Lots of people to keep track of, characters that didn't seem to have chemistry with each other. I also did not like the BDSM depictions, the derogatory comments and slurs towards other lifestyles, and for me put downs, humiliations,& rape just don't excite

Interesting story, and a keen look into the BDSM community.

Review:

"Red" by Kate Kinsey was a erotic thriller murder mystery read. Now, with that being said this is about BDSM, where you will find its raw, dark and edgy..that is to say be prepared for some graphic adult scenes with the violence and language. THIS IS A ADULT READ. OK, let me start by saying that is is about a serial killer that is targeting a BDSM community. I will say that this author seemed to know what she was talking about when it came to the world of BDSM. Ms. Kinsey really knows how to keep your attention as she presented us into the world of BDSM in this erotic murder mystery. You will find that the crime part of this story will really end up as a total surprise to the reader. At least it did me! We find Detective Tom Hanson and his partner (John Griggs)with a string of horrible murders to solve and not getting any leads, so Detective Hanson knowing that these victims were players in the local BDSM..he needs help so... he turns to his former partner and lover, Gina arson who was a professional dominatrix after being forced from her job as a cop that had turned into a sex scandal. Hanson needs her inside knowledge of the local and very secret BDSM scene if he is to have any chance of solving the crimes. Now, the story will really take off from here and this is where I say you must pick up "Red" to see how Ms. Kinsey will bring this all out to you the reader.

Ms. Kinsey knows how to tell a well written story and the characters are so well developed and so real. I did learn that this author lives the BDSM life-style herself....so she knows what she is talking about. So, if you are in for a erotic thriller murder mystery read I would recommend "Red" to you!

Reactions:
A dark Thriller where the reader follows the corpses left by a psychopath in the middle of BDSM.

Beyond the particularly bloody murders with victims disfigured and mutilated, there are warning about the dangers of Internet dating. Protections to take when meeting a stranger and being suspicious of charming princes too charming to be true.
Warnings also against judgments and bigotry about non-compliant sexual practices requiring the BDSM lovers to hide and lie to not be viewed like monsters and evil.

Of course, the reader discovers the BDSM world through the eyes of insiders in the person of Gina, Marla or Jason, etc. A safe, sain and consensual way of enjoying sex.
The author also describes some practices, tools, scenes and desires mixing pleasure and pain of the BDSM disciples.

Without forgetting, through judgments, bad jokes and taunts given by Griggs and sometimes Hansen, the author plays on prejudices, insults and judgments that can be heard about BDSM lovers. It's a very partial way of viewing the BDSM universe by stating honnestly the different point of views of people.

By the way, I found the boorishness, the curiosity and awkward humor of Griggs fun and probably near the truth about the common reactions. I've liked the objectivity of Kate Kinsey.

Far from the BDSM love stories that have been booming these past months, this thriller scours the intensity of the hatred, the racism that emanates from the murderer.

Very well written, with words raw, direct, the investigation is rather well put together.
Although I managed to discover the identity of the psychopath before the end ... But I did not expect some of the end twists.
A thriller addictive and amazing!
