Sentimentally written because it was based on an experience of the author's daughter, but a good tool for exposing young readers to the variety of Native American languages and to expressing for native people and others the difficulties of living away from their communities. Curricular connections can be made to complement discussions of modern native children, and to balance out students' exposure to cultural bias, especially regarding cowboys and indians.
