The Decline of Rome and the Rise of Mediaeval Europe por Solomon Katz

This could be a bookend to Starr's work on the fall of Rome and is in the same excellent short Cornell University series from the 1950s. The attempt was to re-acquaint students with the basics of Western civilization, and to defend it. In this endeavor they succeeded. The most interesting section is surveying the colorful past of explaining Rom's decline (Chapter IV Decline and Fall).
