A cute book that shows place value and how important it is. I like the illustrations and the story. The idea of the decimal being an actual creature is cute.

Mathematics is difficult unless connected to a subject from student's lives. "The Power of 10" utilizes money which kids can relate with to grasp different multiples. In many classes, money (coins) is often used as easy an easy manipulative for lessons. the power of 10 has a strong emphasis on how the difference between 500 and 5 is simple the placement of the decimal point.

This book is about a young boy who goes to the store to buy a basketball. However, he quickly discovers the importance of place value once he realizes that he doesn't have enough money to pay for the ball. This book would be a fun way to teach place value and decimals to young students.
