Chapter 7, "Some Beatings Are Worth Risking, Brolly Lady," is the short narrative also known alternatively as "Brolly Lady," or "Standing in the Gap," or "Some Beatings Are Worth Taking" first posted to the ShiraDest blog in 2021. It has received a far greater deal of attention than the author anticipated, and to which she hopes will go equally to her recent nonfiction work.

I wrote this book as a contribution to the literature of Community-based Currencies, in the hope that a new methodology would help determining how democratic a currency institution was. The theory is that in a democracy, the process of currency-creation should be shared by those who must use that currency. All currency institutions are affected by regulations, decision-making proceses, and scale. These issues are explored and operationalized in the book.… (más)
