This book is not a blueprint to turn every town and city into a utopia. There are areas where I would question the suggested initiatives; there is a local building firm in the Preston example which seems, from the outside, to have too cosy a link to the council. Local is better, even if it costs more. Fair enough, as long as there are firm criteria of extra value for the extra buck. This is not always clearly so.

Despite these criticisms, the idea of local participatory government is one to be applauded and, until someone comes up with a better model, this one has much to recommend itself.… (más)
