Toxic Waste is a basic introductory primer aimed at middle school or higher students to instruct what toxic waste really is, what makes it toxic, and how it is bad for humans and animals. It touches on various forms of toxic waste: sewage, medical, radioactive, chemical and metal; where they come from, how they were handled in the past and the bad it has done to the environment. The book explains some modern forms of disposal: impoundment, injection wells, landfills, and ocean incineration as well as touching on some that are in development: using various forms of bacteria to render the toxins harmless and vitrification. The book also details what kids can do at home to make their abodes less toxic and how they can be more active in the community to help protect their local environs. For the age group the book is intended, I think it was educational and well written.… (más)
