Grete Janus Hertz (1915–2002)

A large but thin volume with a cover that looks like an apartment house (and the back cover is printed with the back of the apartment house, laundry line and all), opens up to reveal six miniature books printed with doors bearing nameplates. Each of these contains a small story about the inhabitants of the flat. A very satisfying book. Our copy received many readings when my children were small.

2023 update: It is now on its next generation of readers. My 3 year old granddaughter recently confused her parents (but not her 6 year old brother) by asking to read "the book with one page in it". Apparently the miniature books attached to the inside don't count as pages, but what an interesting description!… (más)
