About Rehoboth Beach, one of our favorite places to go. Fay Jacobs is a witty writer who shares her take on current events, esp. related to GLBT issues, her personal life and how the two interact in sometimes hilarious ways.

Aside from being a wonderful recounting of the changing life experience of moving from New York City to Rehoboth Beach, For Frying Out Loud is a journal that is right of all spectrum of the LGBT readers and more. Some of the stories Fay Jacobs tells are your ordinary experiences, like the “danger” of taking a plane (and danger doesn’t arrive from the terrorist), or the little trouble of moving into small town USA and being the “stranger” from the city, but other are important steps in her life, experience that will change her life, and that of her partner, forever.

Fay Jacobs is lesbian, and proud to be, and she writes memoirs; for her is really important to highlight what is the “common” culture of LGBT people, what is important to preserve, what is her own experience meeting the “big names” of the LGBT activism, like Barbara Gittings, but also the new voices like Mark Doty or Robert Leleux.

In everything she writes there is humor, but most important, humor on herself; Fay Jacobs is able to take a clever looks on what is happening around her, but at the same time to criticize herself, her knowledge and even her own looks. Fay Jacobs realizes how important is to be up to date with the new technologies, with Facebook, Twitter and even with the Wii, but she is also aware that is not the real world, and so she “fights” with them, arriving to the right balance of using what is necessary, but nothing more.

Fay Jacobs is clever, funny, sometime with a look of scorn upon things, but mostly with the desire of trying everything, always, and full frontal.

As a Rehoboth Beach summer kid it was fun to read about Fay and Bonnie's adventures. Having not been there for several years it also made me aware of many changes in Rehoboth.

There is a "gay focus" to the book, However, not so much so that most folks couldn't otherwise get into it. Plenty of material about growing older, selling a home, etc.
