children's fiction (new series starring an almost-10-y.o. mischievous boy who happens to have a Bengali Muslim Bangladeshi-British family)

I found Yusuf's overactively imaginative antics to be a little much at times, but probably your average 8-11 y.o. kid will absolutely love this series. The nightly bandages/eczema thing isn't really explained so that might be a little confusing, but there is plenty of lively, embarrassing entertainment for kids to enjoy, and I thought the expression of feelings (mandatory HUGS rule) at the end was well done.

There's not as many illustrations as you'd find in a Wimpy Kid book, so this might not appeal as much for English-language learners, but the text itself is very lively and fast-paced so it still has plenty of appeal otherwise.
