Shogo Ikegami

I'm on a yaoi manga/danmei light novel tear this year. This one looked interesting so I gave it a read. It isn't bad, but it isn't great. The artwork is generally cute, the story had potential, but (as seems to be a common pitfall for the genre) everything was a rush to the sex! And, really, the sex is probably the least interesting part of the story.

I'll give it this much -- at least it made attempts at realism and didn't try magical biology. What gets me about this story (there are two volumes, but I cannot bring up part 2 to list it) is that it's cute and has potential to be pretty good -- not great, but satisfying. But so much -- too much -- leaned on tropes and shorthand. Tons of character development and interaction was just sort of hand-waved or assumed, and that, for me, just cut the meat out of the whole thing. Panel after panel of a sweaty pretty-boy saying 'hah, hah!" is just...dull.… (más)
